Obituary

Richard W. "Dick" Starofsky, 87 of Moline, passed away with his family at his side, on Tuesday October 20, 2015, at the Aledo Rehabilitation & Health Care Center after many years of suffering with Alzheimer's .

Services are 11 a.m., Saturday, October 24, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, with Pastor Greg Michel officiating. Visitation is 9 a.m. until service time, Saturday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Moody Radio WDLM. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dick was born on July 11, 1928 in Moline, the son of John L Starofsky, Sr. and Margaret Starofsky Purcell. He married Marilyn Agnes Storr on January 1, 1948.

Dick grew up in Moline and attended Moline schools and continued to live in both Moline and Milan throughout his life. Before the age of 16, he started working at Industrial Towel Service and was soon delivering uniforms and towels. That was the beginning of his career in laundry service. He spent the majority of his career with D & J Laundry as a Route Salesman, Route Supervisor and in Collections. After D & J was bought out, he finished his career at Burke's Cleaners. He also worked at several other laundry facilities.

Dick was a devoted husband to Marilyn for 64 years whom he absolutely adored. Even throughout his Alzeimer's years, he continued to call out her name. He dearly loved his 3 daughters (and their husbands), grandchildren and great-grandchildren. None of us ever doubted that love. He was an amazing man full of joy and 'goofiness' and was quite the 'jokester'. He was extremely loving and caring and always gave the best hugs.

Survivors include daughters; Sandy (Dave) Schumaker, Milan, Diana (Brian) Shepard, Decatur, IL, Debbie (John) Secor, Louisville, KY; grandchildren; Brian Schumaker, Peter Schumaker, Katherine Cobert, Dawn Schumaker, Matthew Shepard, Melissa Watson, Dr. Chad Secor, Paul Secor; 21 great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley (Don) Chance.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother John L. "Jack" Starofsky Jr.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at the Aledo Center who worked tirelessly and who gave our Dad and us so much love and support as they cared for him.
