"Our family has gained another guardian angel."

Rita F. Otten, 90, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at her daughter's home, surrounded by family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 2 ^nd at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.  A rosary will be recited Sunday, October 1 ^st at 12:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.  Memorials may be made in care of the American Heart Association.

Rita was born in Ayrshire, Iowa on June 19, 1927, the daughter of William and Catherine Smith.  She married William Otten on June 12, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island.  She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella.

Prior to retiring she was the owner of Jane's Lingerie in Moline, worked at McCabe's Department Store and Just Petites.

Rita will be remembered for her love of cards and scrabble games, but her love of family was most important.  The sacrifices she made have been inspiring to all her family – always willing to put them first.  She will be missed by all.

Survivors include children (and spouses), Mary Kay (Fran) Glidewell, William (Lori) Otten Jr., Patricia (Richard) Requet, Larry (Dionne) Otten, Jim (Lori) Otten and daughter-in-law, Lana Geerts; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William (Bill), son, Joseph, two sisters, Marie Davis and Kathleen Houser, three brothers, Leonard, Dean and Darlo Smith.
