Obituary

Robert "Bob" A. Jackson, 78, of Rock Island passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Private inurnment will be held in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be left in care of your favorite charity.

Bob was born on September 5, 1946 in Rock Island, IL, a son of Elmer C. and Nellie A. (Brubaker) Jackson. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1964 and later joined the United States Navy. He severed as an electrician on many ships and earned the distinction of being a Golden Shellback. While in the Navy, he met his future wife, Carol J. Smith and they later married on February 7, 1970. After returning from the service, he went into the family business and later served as the owner and operator of Illinois Oil Company in Rock Island.

Bob's hobbies included fishing, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, spending time with family and getting together for Sunday dinners.

Bob believed in his community and was a member of several organizations over the years including: The Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association, Rock Island Little League and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299, all of which he served as a past president. He was also a member of the Development Association of Rock Island and Downtown 2000. Bob also volunteered with Junior Achievement and The Rock Island Grand Prix, where he earned volunteer of the year in 2009. He earned many awards for his volunteer work over the years, including the Mo Brady award.

Those left to cherish Bob's memory include his wife, Carol Jackson; children, Kris (Dave) Perry, Brooke (Chad) Bennett and Adam (Sarah) Jackson; and grandchildren, Madelaine (Kai) Killinger, Jackson and MacKenzie Bennett and Houston, Amelia and Canaan Jackson.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and step-mom, Alice Jackson.
