Robert B. "Bob" White, 84, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at Silver Cross - Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Private family visitation will be held at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7 th Ave., Rock Island a Memorial service will be planned for a later date. Private burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made in care of Memorial Christian Church or Friendship Manor, Silver Cross.
Bob was born on March 5, 1933 in West Liberty, Iowa, the son of Walter B. "Bruce" and Freida M. (Wachs) White. He attended Logan Grade School, Calvin Coolidge and graduated from Sherrard High School. In high school, he played basketball and football. Bob was a Corn Belt Conference All Star in basketball in his junior and senior years.
He married Joanne Rhoadarmer on April 19, 1952 and two sons were born to this union, Craig Evan and Robert Brian White. Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and served in Korea, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and he was honorably discharged in 1955. Bob was previously employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. and then McKesson Pharmaceuticals for 30 years, retiring in 1994. In younger years, he played fastpitch softball as a catcher and manager. He participated in many softball world tournaments. He was a member of Memorial Christian Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board, an Elder and also on various committees. He greatly enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities. Bob was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. He cherished the time spent with his family and always brought a laugh to the occasion.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joanne; children, Craig (Allison) White, Preemption and Robert B. "Brian" (Debbie) White, Marion, Ark.; grandchildren, Casey White, Texas; Evan (Rachel) White and Abbie White, Iowa; great grandchildren, Jaxon and Lexi White; cousins, Shirley Coryell, Milan; Edward (Jan) Wachs, East Moline; Clayton Jesson, Milan and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
