Robert G. Bayness, 85, of Rock Island, died Friday, June 3, 2016 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan.  Cremation rites were accorded.  A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 10 - 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.  Burial will be private at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Memorials may be made in care of the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Bob was born February 20, 1931 on his parents, Joe and Grace Green Bayness farm, south of Westgate, Iowa.  He graduated from Oelwein High School in Iowa in 1949.  He moved to Rock Island in 1950.

Bob served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956.  He did carpenter work for Bob Bower Construction Company for 13 years.  He sold real estate for Oakwood Realty Company for 25 years, retiring December 31, 1996.  He built Coachwood Condo's in Rock Island.

Bob was a member of Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island.  He enjoyed his 13 mission trips to different parts of the world.  He also enjoyed going to the Rock Island Fitness Center, biking, running and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his nephews, Bill (Pam) Ehm, Jim (Kay) Bashaw, Richard (Linda) Moritz, Jerry (Carolyn) Bayness, Roger (Cheryl) Bayness and Denny (Linda) Bachman; and nieces, Kay (Lew) Westcott and Joyce (Delmar) Stickfort.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, a brother and a niece.
