February 5, 1930 – November 23, 2014
Robert R. Carpentier, 84, of Rock Island, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Services for Mr. Carpentier will be 1 pm, Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post No. 246. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Girls Softball League or to the Rock Island/Milan Boosters Club.
Robert was born on February 5, 1930 in Moline, a son of John and Augusta Van Luchem Carpentier. He married Doris Gordon on February 20, 1954 in Rock Island. Prior to enrolling in the service, he was employed at International Harvester. He served in the Army and National Guard for 5 years. Bob worked as a pipefitter out of Plumbers and Pipefitter Union Hall, Local No. 25, Rock Island for 33 years.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island Family Campers, St. Louis Cardinals Fan Club, Moline American Legion Post No. 246, and Rock Island, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 25. He was an active coach for Rock Island Girls' Softball for many years and then continued coaching women's softball in the area. He loved to watch Rock Island High School sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed pheasant hunting with his German Shorthair Pointers. He wintered in Florida where he became a karaoke star and continued singing at home.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Doris; children, Rhonda (Kevin) Johnson, Rock Island and Andrea (Tim) Dewaele, Moline; grandchildren, Kevin Robert Johnson, Indiana and Carissa Dewaele; sisters, Jeanette Long, Geneseo and Lorraine Gengler, Milan.
