Robert "Bob" Decker, Jr., 76, of Rock Island, passed away Friday April 28, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 4th Ave. E.,Milan. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities or the American Heart Association
Bob was born on May 31, 1940 in Peoria, IL, the son of Robert Sr. and Helen Decker. He married Barbara Bates on February 16, 1962 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on July 4, 1999. Mr. Decker was a United States Army Veteran. He had been employed with Dohrn Transfer as a driver and in management for 43 years until his retirement.
Bob was a member of Eureka Lodge #69 AF & AM. In earlier years, he was very involved in coaching youth baseball and Optimist League basketball. Bob coached the Milan American Legion baseball team for 16-18 year olds, Little League and Babe Ruth teams for over 10 years. He was also a Volunteer Firefighter in the Blackhawk Fire Protection District. Bob greatly enjoyed attending and following his grandchildren's sporting events, meeting his morning coffee group at McDonalds and playing golf with his friends on Sundays. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed following the San Francisco Giants, whom his son, Steve, played for and is currently the Assistant Batting Coach.
Left to cherish his memory are his children; Catherine Rankin, Carol Stream; Stephen (Maite) Decker, Keizer, Ore., Chris (John) Polzin, East Moline; Stepson, Jeff Koester, Milan; grandchildren, Jennifer Martin, Cody Rankin, Hailey Decker, Cammie Decker and Nicole Polzin; step granddaughter, Lana Descamps; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Janet, Judy and Patricia; brother, Richard; fiancée, Coral Rudsell and family: Jeff (Susan) Johnson, Moline; Kevin (Rhonda) Johnson, Rock Island; Laurel Johnson, Merritt Johnson, Kevin Johnson; one great grandchild and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents, and brother, Tom
