Obituary

Robert A. Duyvejonck, 82, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Flower Mound, TX,

surrounded by the love of his family. Bob was born on October 6, 1943, in Rock Island, Illinois, the

youngest of Herman (Munch) and Ethel’s two children.

Bob graduated from St Ambrose University in 1966, and was employed as an accountant by the Rock

Island Arsenal, until his retirement. There, he met Marie Johnston; her outgoing exuberance was the

perfect fit to his quiet steadiness, and they enjoyed 52 years together before her death in 2024.

In his younger days, Bob bowled competitively and traveled the country with his team. As he got older,

the things Bob enjoyed most didn’t have a price: watching a summer storm roll in or the deer eating

corn in the backyard; feeding the ducks at Sunset Marina; spending countless hours at the ballfields,

coaching or watching his kids; drinking a cold beer during a family fish fry or after playing 9 holes;

taking in an Ambrose or Augie basketball game; teaching his grandchildren to play euchre. He loved

the feeling of the wind in his hair, probably dating back to the boat trips he enjoyed as a child, and while

his most ardent wish of owning a Corvette may not have come true, he did love the convertible he

owned post-retirement and drove it often to Highland Springs, where he “worked” (and golfed).

A man of few words, Bob loved his family and provided for them first. His patience balanced Marie’s

passion; he was tasked with teaching each kid to drive, to navigate directions pre-GPS, to perfectly fold

a fitted sheet, and to care for their vehicles and their lawns. Bob’s loyalty did not fail: he golfed in the

same foursome until his health prohibited it; rode his bike on the same trails; enjoyed the same

Whitey’s chocolate marshmallow milkshake; accepted his children’s life decisions without question;

pushed his wife’s wheelchair into her chemo appointments and held her hand until her death. Without

her, his last great adventure was a move to Texas to spend the last of his life close to his son, where he

learned his own resilience and during which his family treasured the extra time spent with him.

Stubborn to the end, he left this world free from pain, from regret, and confident that he would be

reunited with Marie.

Bob is survived by his children: Scott Daniels, Milan, IL; Terry Duyvejonck, Loganville, GA; Beth (Brian

Kirkvold) Duyvejonck, Excelsior, MN; Andrew Duyvejonck, Flower Mound, TX; and Jennifer (Kate)

Tuttle, St Louis, MO; grandchildren Sarah, Jeremy, Sean, Tate, Teaghan, Madeline, Ty, Liv, Oliver, and

Hazel; two great-grandchildren; and sibling: Kent (Kathy) Duyvejonck, Venice, FL. He was preceded in

death by wife Marie Duyvejonck.

A private burial will be held for the family at a later date.
