Robert S. Griffin Sr., 92, of Moline, passed away Sunday June 23, 2024 at Hope Creek Nursing and Rehab, East Moline.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:30 am Thursday June 27, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10:30 am to service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the family.
Robert was born on January 30, 1932 in Rock Island, the son of William and Elizabeth (Horton) Griffin. He married Patricia Miller in March of 1960, to whom he was married for 58 years.
He had retired from the former Eagles Warehouse, Milan. Robert was a United States Army Veteran.
Robert spent his free time assisting the Rock Island Police Department for 20 years with the Senior Patrol Program and later as a Chaplain with the department. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, shooting, traveling and had a extensive collection of beer cans. He was a member of Destiny Baptist Church, Rock Island.
Survivors include his daughters, Vickie J. Glasgow, Milan, Cheryl Minear, Milan; sons, Robert S. Griffin II, Rock Island, Matthew(Christina) Griffin, East Moline; grandchildren, Dawn, Royal, Missy, Sis, Brandy, David, Brandy, Randy, Morgan, Nicholas, Alexis, Sara, Robert III, Chelsea, Tyler, Jayme, Joel, Adara,; great grandchildren, Kellsie, Keenan, Kayle, Ashlee, Lewis, Quinten, Noah, Marissa, Aleigha, Charly, Wyatt, Zoey, Zhane, Robert IV, Xander, Brody, Willow, Brayton, Atalissa, Rayna, Elliott, Riley, Drake, Braxton, Isabelle and Lyla; great-great grandchildren, Damauri, Kingston, KJ, Kennedy, Lucille, Payton, Krew and Kallen, who will be born this year; sisters, Helen Gibbs, Victoria, Texas and Louis Speaker, Viola; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; parents, William and Elizabeth; son in law, David and 2 grandchildren.
