Robert R. Haskins Jr., 70, Matherville, IL passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. There will be a visitation from 4-6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at the funeral home. Inurnment with military honors to follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
Robert was born on July 27, 1954 to Lois (Titus) and Robert Haskins Sr. in Rock Island. After graduating from Rocky, he started his service with the US Army where he earned National Defense and Sharpshooter Medals. On August 15, 1974 Robert was honorably discharged and returned to the Quad Cities. He then married Terry Ghys. They lived in Davenport, IA and had three children.
Robert spent his career at Eagle Foods where he worked as a forklift driver until his retirement.
On February 28, 1998, he was united in marriage to Patricia Spaulding. The couple moved to San Tan Valley, AZ in 2007. Robert returned to the Quad Cities in 2019 after Patty passed away.
Robert loved sports; he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and in his younger years played softball and bowled on leagues. Robert collected sports cards and memorabilia, and beanie babies with Patty. He also liked to fish and hunt. Robert was a handyman who helped many with their home projects and enjoyed woodworking and other crafts.
Robert is survived by his children, Chris Haskins, Jay Haskins, and Amanda (Michael Greene) Haskins; siblings, Kevin (Deb) Haskins, Steve (Jackie) Haskins, and Vickie Haskins; grandchildren, Starr Haskins, Jay Haskins Jr., Austin Haskins, Constance Williams, Charles (Taylor) Westbrook III, Xavier Angel and Samir Angel; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Patty.
