Robert W. "Whitey" Reed Sr., 83, Milan, IL passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at his home. There will be a visitation from 4-6:30 PM with a time of memory sharing at 6:30 PM on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Memorials preferred to the Humane Society.

Whitey was born on July 30, 1939 to Albert and Elizabeth (Crosby) Reed in Rock Island, IL. He grew up in Rock Island and attended Rock Island High School. On August 29, 1959 he was united in marriage to Shirley Street at First United Methodist Church in Rock Island. The couple made their home in Milan where they raised their children.

Whitey was a laborer and proud member of Laborers' Local Union 309 for 57 years. He also painted houses for several years.

Whitey was a talented woodworker who made many things for family members. He enjoyed going to yard sales, gardening, and was an avid reader of western novels. He was a devout Packers fan and he liked to play dominoes and cards with his friends. Whitey and Shirley bowled together for many years and they loved to camp, most recently at Shady Lakes in New Windsor. They also went on many cruises together where Whitey especially loved being able to enjoy all the good food.

Whitey is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; sons, Robert (Denise) Reed Jr. and Rod (Diane) Reed; grandchildren, Amie (Drew) Herrera, Joel Reed, Tyler (Alyssa Griffin) Reed, Hunter Reed, and Kirsten Reed; great-grandchildren, Reed and Ben Herrera; and siblings, Roy (Katie) Reed, Bonnie Corbin, Linda Wood, Roger (Brenda) Reed, David (Debbie) Reed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Margaret Masengarb, Jim Reed and George Reed.
