Obituary

Robert G. Scott, 99, of Milan, passed away unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, January 10, 2023, with his son by his side.

Visitation will be Monday January 16, 2023 from 4:00-7:00pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Funeral services will be 10:00am Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 1620 1st St W, Milan. Burial will follow in Rural Township Beulah Cemetery. Memorials may be left to First Presbyterian Church.

Robert was born September 16, 1923 in Erie, Illinois, the son of Earl LeRoy and Sylvia Ethlyn Scott. In his youth he was active in Boy Scouts and the Methodist Sunday School. He had many stories about life in the Depression. After graduating from Erie High School he attended Augustana College and then the University of Illinois Law School. In 1948, he married Barbara Sample of rural Port Byron and in 1951 they bought a house about a mile south of Milan (now in the center of town) and lived there until Tuesday.

He began the practice of law in 1948 at his father's firm Bell, Farrar and Scott in the Safety Building, Rock Island. Mr. Scott practiced law there for 56 years before forming the Collinson and Scott law firm in Milan with Ken Collinson and with his own grandson, Lincoln Scott. He practiced law there in Milan for 8 years and retired on his 90th birthday.

He was Village Attorney for Milan and Attorney for Blackhawk Fire Protection District for over 40 years, was past President of the Rock Island County Bar Association, a founding director of Blackhawk Bank and served as a Director there for over 50 years. He was the first Commissioner appointed by the Village of Milan to the Airport Board. He served many years on the Board of Directors of Just Kids Child Care and was past Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Greater Metropolitan Area Housing Authority. Other service included President of the board of directors of the Foundation for Crippled Children and Adults of Rock Island County, and past President of the Milan Area Rotary Club and the "old" Milan Lions Club.

Mr. Scott was a 65 year member and former Elder of First Presbyterian Church, Milan, where, till Sunday, he also enjoyed singing in the choir and the sweet fellowship. He had been an avid golfer and was a longtime member of Pinnacle Country Club.

Survivors include his sons, Robert E. Scott and Daniel R. Scott; daughter in law, Mary Scott; grandchildren, Lincoln (Sophia) , Ben (Claire), Emily and Jeff; great grandchildren, Carter, Quinn, Zoe, Hayden and Rowan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara in 2012 and son, William Scott in 2020.
