Obituary

Robert "Bob" Gene Stradt, 83, of Milan, passed away on Friday, October 6th, 2023, in the loving embrace of family.

Bob was the son of William Paul and Hildagard Stradt of Davenport, IA. After the death of his parents when he was just 13, he was raised by his older brother, Bill and sister-in-law, Ellen. Bob started a family in his early 20s with his former wife, Helen Morrow. At the age of 26, he was drafted into the United States Army. Despite his strong sense of duty, his time in the Army was cut short, and he returned home to be with his four young children. They were his greatest source of joy. He loved spending time with them camping, sledding, and traveling.

On June 21st, 1968, Bob married the love of his life, Carol Eve Cross, in Moline, IL. Together, they shared some of life's most exciting adventures: owning and operating a roller rink, building a home from the ground up, laying the bricks with their own two hands, encouraging and supporting one another in building their careers and spending time with grandchildren. Carol passed away in 2003. Not long after, having spent 30 years in the freight transportation industry, Bob retired as an Account Executive from USF Holland. He spent his early retirement years taking long walks and writing a book chronicling his late wife's cancer journey and passing.

Throughout his life, Bob loved being involved in the lives of his family and friends. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his words of wisdom and encouragement to the ones he loved will live on.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Cross) Stradt; son, Ron Stradt; granddaughter, Sarah Genberg; his parents, William Paul Stradt and Hildagard (Ruge) Stradt; his siblings, Gilbert "Bud" Stradt, Bill Stradt, Alvin Stradt, and Amanda Weipert.

He is survived by his son, Robert (Julie) Stradt of Geneseo; daughters, Sandra (Scott) Genberg of Haymarket, VA and Robyn "Arlene" Stradt of Moline, IL; his grandchildren, Michael Nance, Rebecca (Scot) Ahlers, Kristen (Perry) Stradt-Johnson, Ben Steen, Joe (Hailey) Stradt, Mitchell Genberg, Christopher Genberg, Elizabeth Genberg, and Sophia Stradt; his great-grandchildren, Bryleigh Nance, Evelyn Ahlers, and Zac Ahlers; siblings, Paul Stradt and Alice Johnson.
