Robert M. "Bob" Wakefield, 80, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 at his home.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Additional services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Heyworth United Church, Heyworth, IL where visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be at the Heyworth Cemetery, where Military honors will be presented by Heyworth American Legion Post 624. Memorials may be made to the Heyworth United Church, The Heyworth Railroad Museum or to a favorite charity.

Robert M. Wakefield was born May 2, 1934, in Heyworth, IL, the son of Lloyd M. and Alberta Nelson Wakefield. He married Judith L. Hanes in 1955 in Bloomington, IL, they later divorced. He later found his soul mate in Aurilee "Lee" J. Schenck of Rock Island.

Bob graduated from Heyworth High School in 1952. He also graduated from Illinois State University, Illinois Banker's School and the Graduate School of Banking. Bob's 47 years in banking included; senior vice president of Peoples Bank of Bloomington; serving as president and CEO of Madison National Bank, Niles; senior vice president and cashier of State Bank of Collinsville; president and CEO of Eagle Bank of Madison County, Glen Carbon; chairman, president and CEO of Mount Carroll National Bank; vice president of marketing and sales at Norman Backues & Associates, Inc., Belleville; president and CEO of Farmers State Bank of Camp Point; director, president, and CEO of United State Bank, Lewiston, Mo.; and served as acting president of THE National Bank, Aledo. He retired in 2002.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1955 to 1957. Bob was a member of South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, member and Past Master of Heyworth Lodge 251 A.F. & A.M. , president of the Longboat Beachcomber Condominium Association, Inc., member of the Kiwanis Club of Rock Island, past president of the Collinsville United Way and Collinsville Lions Club, a member of the Bloomington Consistory, , past president of the McLean County Chapter AIB and former member of Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington.

Bob was a life-long diehard St. Louis Cardinal fan. He loved spending time at his beloved Beachcomber Condo in Longboat Key. He also enjoyed playing golf and got his first hole-in-one at the age of 79.

He is survived by his fiancée, Aurilee Schenck, Rock Island; children, Philip Wakefield, Henderson, NV, Nancy (Greg) Baklik, Katy, TX, and Eliot (Jane) Wakefield, Peoria, AZ; and grandchildren, Sean and Erika Wakefield, Peoria, AZ. He will also be fondly remembered by Aurilee's children, Craig (Katrina) Barkalow, Rock Island and Louann (Joe) Brems, Moline; her eight grandchildren; and her nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Patricia Beverage and Sharilyn Mosback.
