Robert A. Wickwire, 95, of Davenport, formerly of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
A prayer service will be 2 pm Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave. Rock Island. Visitation is Noon until service time. Private inurnment will be at later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Robert Arthur Wickwire was born July 14, 1921 in Belvedere, Ill., a son of Guy E. and Helena Hoffman Wickwire. He married Logene H. Sydow on Dec. 5, 1949 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Bob attended Miami University, Oxford, Ohio before joining the US Marine Corps during WW II. He rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was discharged in 1946. He graduated from Illinois College, Jacksonville, Ill., in 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
He had a distinguished career with the FBI, retiring in 1975 with nearly 30 years of service. He later worked as an investigator with the Rock Island County State Attorney's Office.
Bob and Logene retired to Gainesville, Fla., where they enjoyed many good years before moving back to the Quad Cities. He was a former member of South Park Presbyterian Church and the Rock Island Kiwanis Club. Bob enjoyed playing golf and cards and loved to swim. His greatest passion was for his family, whom he loved dearly. Bob was a loyal and loving husband and father.
Survivors include his wife, Logene; daughters, Kathryn Wickwire, Oak Park, Ill., and Dr. Karen Wickwire (Spike Bloom), Davenport; son, James (Paula) Wickwire, Moline; granddaughters, Grace and Claire Wickwire, Moline; sister, Grace Steinborn, Belvedere; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bud (George) and Guy; and sisters, Coralyn and Helen.
