Roderick V. Atkins, age 72, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. He was born on April 2, 1954, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Ivary and Mildred (Nelams) Atkins.

A man of simple pleasures, Roderick had a deep passion for sports, particularly those teams hailing from Chicago. He worked at Farmall, the Arsenal , Diamond Star Motors and various other factories. He was also a member of the group C.H. Inc. You just had to know Roderick, to know who he was and what he stood for.

Roderick is survived by his son, Roderick Atkins II, and his daughter, Angela Wilson; and his grandchildren. He is also mourned by his siblings, Wayne (Eva) Atkins and Mika (Stephen) Atkins-Jacobs, along with other extended family and friends who will miss his presence dearly. Roderick is preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, IL. The family invites all who wish to honor Roderick's memory to remember the good times they had with him. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
