IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roland "Jr"
Green
August 9, 2025
Roland Green Jr. "JR", 69, of East Moline, IL, passed away on August 9th, leaving behind a life filled with service, humor, and heart. He served his country in the U.S. Army, then traded one badge for another, first as a police officer, then as a firefighter for the Rock Island Fire Department, where he retired as a lieutenant after 23 years. Whether it was keeping the streets safe or charging into a fire, JR faced it all with courage and usually a one-liner ready to make you laugh in the process. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 23 years, Janis, a father to Lyndi, and to Jamie and Erin (Jose), his "stepdaughters" in name only. In truth, he treated them like his own from day one. He shared a special bond with his son-in-law, Jose and was also especially close to his sister Mary, sharing countless travels, laughs, and memories together. His family could always count on him to show up when something broke, when someone needed a laugh, or when life got hard. JR had a quick wit, a big heart, and a gift for making people feel cared for. Sometimes with a joke, sometimes with a helping hand, and often with both. If something needed doing, he was there. If you needed a laugh, he was the guy. If you needed a hero…well, he had been that all along. While proud of his years in uniform, his favorite title was "Papa." His greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids, especially Maya, Eva and Nico, who were at the very center of his world. They were his constant companions, his biggest brag, and the ones who kept his heart full. He also cherished his other grandchildren, Emma, Bella, and Leigha, each of whom held a special place in his life. Outside of family, JR found happiness in simple pleasures: a round of golf on a sunny day, tending to his yard, building intricate model trains, or tinkering in his garage with his good friends Jim, Bob, and Joe. That garage was more than just a workspace, it was a gathering spot for conversations that solved the world's problems. And if there's a firehouse in heaven, you can bet he's already found the coffee pot and is telling stories around the table.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Shirley and Vicki and infant daughter, Lisa.
