Ronald W. Baker, 56, of Mankato, Minn., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Burial service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Rock Island. Those wishing to attend burial services should meet at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave, Rock Island by 1:30 p.m.

Ron was a friend, father and committed community member who was driven to make a difference in the world. Ron dedicated the better part of his life to helping those who didn't always have the capacity to help themselves. He worked in homeless shelters, for vulnerable-adult foster programs and for the Committee Against Domestic Abuse. His compassion changed countless lives. His absence pains many more.

Ron grew up in Rock Island, raised his family in Dubuque, Iowa, and later moved to Mankato.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Red and LaVonne Baker; and his older sister, Lynne. He is survived by his two daughters, Jessica and Emily Baker, Peosta and Dubuque, Iowa; and his dog, Hoss.
