Longtime Quad City resident Ronald George Bawmann, 75, passed away September 6, 2014, at Country Manor in Davenport. He suffered from Pick's Disease that eventually took his life. A memorial service will be held at the Budweiser Champions Club Suite at Modern Woodman Park, Davenport at 4 pm, on Saturday, November 22, 2014
Ron is survived by his sons Brad Bawmann, his wife Wendy and their children Oliver (Santa Clara, CA) and Phoebe of Denver, CO, Tim Bawmann, his wife Kelley and their children Chloe (St. Petersburg, FL) and Elijah Bawmann of Nashua, NH and a daughter Emily Kristina Bawmann, her husband Brandon Redmond and their son Maxwell of Davenport, IA. Ron shared 45 years of marriage with Janet Ann Griffin Bawmann divorcing in 2005. His brother Donald George Bawmann and his family also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his father Donald George and mother Ruth.
Ron was born May 28, 1939, in Rock Island, IL to the late Donald George and Ruth Churchill Bawmann. He graduated from Rock Island High School 1957 and Augustana College 1961. At Rock Island Ron was a 3rd place winner in state tennis doubles in 1957. The Rocks won district titles in 1955 and 1956. He was a member of the Rock Island High School concert band and an accomplished trumpet player. At Augustana Ron won tennis conference championships in singles (1958, '60) and doubles (1958, '60). He was a longtime member of the Rock Valley Racquet Club and spent his summers playing competitive tennis
Ron was District Sales Manager for Certified Laboratories of Irving, TX, for most of his career, retiring in 2003. He won numerous awards from Certified for his sales accomplishments and is a member of the company's Hall of Fame. Ron rose to the Number 1 salesman at Certified during his career even though he had one of the smallest territories in the country.
In his healthy years he was a deacon at South Park Presbyterian Church also serving as a Youth Group leader and Sunday school teacher. He was also the player and coach on the church's softball team. In later years he joined the First Baptist Church in Rock Island where he was a member of the choir.
Ron's hobbies included family vacations, houseboat trips on the Mississippi River, fishing in Wisconsin and morning coffee with friends, walks at the Rock Island Fitness Center, the Chicago Cubs and his beloved beagle Bobbie. In illness, he adored his caregivers at Country Manor in Davenport. They were his extended family.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at www.theaftd.org via the "donate now" button. Ron's brain has been donated to science and will undergo examination at Harvard Medical School's Brain Bank to help us all learn more about Pick's Disease.
