Ronald Raymond Camper, 74, of Rapid City, Ill., died Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Genesis Medical Center – Illini Campus, Silvis. Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, 1101 10th Ave., Silvis, Ill. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented by the Vietnam Veterans of American Post 299. Memorials in care of the family.
Ron was born in Rock Island, Ill. on August 23, 1947, a son of Arthur Raymond and Loraine May Weigand Camper. He graduated from Alleman High School in 1965.
Ron was a U.S. Army veteran who served two tours in Vietnam. He married Sherry Aman Claeys on May 16, 1992 at the Memorial Baptist Church, Milan, Ill.
Ron retired from the State of Illinois where he served as a correctional officer for 20 years at the East Moline Correctional Center. He enjoyed keeping busy following retirement and became a driving and classroom instructor at Skiles Driving School in East Moline. He also drove a Pinks bus for Hampton Elementary School and was a volunteer Port Byron fireman for several years.
Ron was a member of the First Baptist Church, Silvis and the Vietnam Veterans of America Post 299. He formerly served on the Milan Auxiliary Police Department. Ron was also an archery and shooting instructor for the Youth Shooting Sports Association in Moline.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sherry Camper, Rapid City, Ill.; son, Raymond Prucher, New York, NY; brother, Daniel F. (Liz) Camper, Moline; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Camper.
