Ronald J. Laermans, 73, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday March 22, 2018 at Clarissa C. Cooke Hospice House, Bettendorf. A Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and visitation following from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25th, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 26th, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Inurnment, with military honors, will be Wednesday at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the family for his twin granddaughters' educations. Ronald was born March 8, 1945 in Rock Island, a son of John P. and Leah K. Poma Laermans. He graduated from Alleman High School, Class of 1963. Ronald and Shari T. Aversing were united in marriage on October 24, 1970 in Rock Island. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Ronald grew up working in the family grocery, Laermans Market. Later in life, he worked at Quad City Die Casting and retired from John Deere Parts and Distribution Center in Milan. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. He also was a lifelong member of the East End Club, Moline, founded by his grandfather. Ronald enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, fishing, cooking, reading, and he raised pigeons for several years. He was a well-known patron of the 3031 branch of the Rock Island Public Library. Surviving are his wife, Shari, of Rock Island; children, Jared L. Laermans, Grimes, IA, Corinna L. Laermans and Brett R. Laermans, both of Rock Island; twin granddaughters, Brittany R. and Brianna L. Marxen, both of Ames, IA; brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Jean Laermans, East Moline; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue DeMuynck.
