Ronald A. Stevens passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Overlook Retirement Village in Moline, with his two daughters by his side. Private graveside services with Military Honors will be held on September 21st at Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Milan Food Pantry.

Ronald was born August 9, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa to Clark and Erma Stevens. He graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving from 1952 to 1956. While stationed in England, Ron met the love of his life, Mary Finnigan. They were married 64 years until her passing in 2019.

Following his military service, Ron attended Western Illinois University, where he earned a Masters degree in education. He went on to dedicate 27 years to Rock Island High School as a teacher and guidance counselor. Ron had a lasting impact on countless students throughout his career. Ronald took great pride in wearing his Rock Island hat, and even at 93, his familiar red and gold hat made him easy to spot throughout Overlook.

Ronald cherished his family and every summer the family traveled all over the United States. Ron loved the outdoors and in his younger years, enjoyed biking and hiking. He also had a deep love of music, with his taste ranging from country to opera. In retirement Ronald and Mary spent their winters in South Padre Island, Texas where you could find them on the beach or singing karaoke with friends.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nursing staff at Overlook Retirement Village and St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care they provided Ron and his family.

Ron is survived by his daughters, Mary Louise (Barry) Barnes and Patricia (David) Silverman; grandchildren, Brooke (Michael) Highline, Adam (Amy) Barnes, Dylan (Angela) Silverman and Alexandra (Zach) Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Logan Highline, Parker, Penelope and Phinnigan Barnes, and Lennon Silverman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Mary, his brother Clark and sister-in-law Lavaun.
