Roosevelt L. Walker Jr, 83, of Rock Island, passed away Friday August 1, 2014 at Heartland Healthcare, Galesburg.

A Graveside Serice will be held 11:30 AM on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Military Honors will be performed at the cemetery. Memorials may be left to the family.

Roosevelt was born in 1931, in Beggs, Oklahoma to Roosevelt Sr and Vera Walker. Roosevelt served in the Civil Services, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed reading his bible, watching Rifle Man and just sitting back enjoying quiet time eating his German chocolate cake.

Roosevelt will be cherished and remembered by his sisters Iva Wells and Annette (Lee) Mapp of Rock Island; his brothers Charles Peen, Rockford, IL, Gene Arthur Smith, Detroit, MI, and Oscar Smith Jr., Henrietta, OK, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ralph Walker and sisters, Vala Armstrong, Ida Lampkin and Verna Branch.

A special "thank you" to Vera Wells and Nicole Barnett for always being there for Roosevelt and providing care in his time of need.
