Obituary

Roselle C. Jackson, a lifelong resident of Rock Island, died Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Friendship Manor - Memory Care Unit, Rock Island. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of Friendship Manor - Memory Care Unit.


Roselle was born in Rock Island on August 1, 1919, daughter of John and Celina Waters Conwell. She married Laverne C. Jackson in Kahoka, Mo. on Nov. 14, 1942. He preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1990. Roselle and Laverne had four sons.


Roselle graduated from the Villa De Chantal in 1938, earned her A.A. degree from Black Hawk College in 1980, and continued to take classes (including arts and crafts) in later years. Roselle worked at the Rock Island High School cafeteria. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.


One of Roselle's avocations was singing. She sang with the St. Pius X Choir and Funeral Choir, several Quad City Music Guild plays, the Sing-A-Lings (traveling around the Quad Cities to entertain seniors),
the Silver Linings Chorus, the Great River Echo Barber Shop Chorus, and in performances of Handel's Messiah at Augustana College. She was also in a Bell Choir and was an Irish Ceili Dancer.  Roselle was a tireless volunteer, active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). She was an active participant (winning a number of medals in singing and dancing) and board member of the Senior Olympics. Roselle volunteered for 30 years at the John Deere Classic and previous QC golf tournaments. She also volunteered with Symphony in Bloom.


Roselle took an interest in celebrities and had a collection of autographed photographs. She was an extra in two Avati Brothers movies filmed in the Quad Cities: An American Love and the Bix Biederbeck
Story. She also had a speaking part in Beauty Queen Butcher.Roselle loved to spend time at the Casino boat with her friends, especially when she came home with the money she went with.


Survivors include her children, Bill (Marcia) Jackson, Leverett, Mass., Bob (Sandey) Jackson, Rock Island, Tom (Joanne) Jackson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Terry (Pam) Jackson, Moline; grandchildren, Jessica, Jefferson, Jenny, Laura, Emily, Rose, Mallory, Lindsay and
Ryan; step-grandsons, Aaron and Ben; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, John Conwell and sister, Genevieve Fetes .

The family would like to thank Friendship Manor Memory Care for their compassion and love and to Hospice Compassus for their direction and guidance during this time.


Her entire life, Roselle Jackson was positive, enthusiastic, energetic, loving and a wonderful example of a life well lived to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
