Roy “LeRoy” Burrell, 79, of Moline, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 16, 2026, at his home.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00am, Monday August 24, 2026 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, with military honors by the East Moline American Legion Post 227.
LeRoy was born on May 15, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Robert Burrell Sr. and Clara Bacon. He accepted Christ at an early age. After graduating from United Township High School in 1965, LeRoy joined the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War.
LeRoy was especially talented with his hands and with mathematics, and there wasn't much he couldn't figure out and repair. After his military service, he put those skills to good use throughout his career. LeRoy was employed by International Harvester, IBM and the City of Rock Island Housing Authority, where he served as a Maintenance Supervisor for several years. He retired from the City of East Moline after working at the city water treatment plant for 17 years.
While LeRoy was proud of his professional accomplishments, his greatest pride came from being the father of four amazing children.
LeRoy spent the last 35 years with the love of his life Donna Bruce-Burrell. The two were joined in marriage on February 17, 2001 in East Moline. They enjoyed traveling, entertaining family and friends, playing in dart leagues and following their favorite sports teams. LeRoy was an avid pool player and captained several teams in local pool leagues. He also enjoyed keeping up with the latest technology, playing cards, and was a life-long Chicago Bears fan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Donna; son, Rory Burrell, Rock Island, IL; daughters, Rhonda (Brian) Hurd, St. Louis, MO, Erin Dawson, Chicago, IL and Michiko Grandberry, Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Devin Day, Mallory Day, Marcelus Willis, Gabrielle Hurd, Olivia Hurd, James Grandberry and Tyniqua Harris; great-granddaughter, Kay' Lani Harris; siblings, Belinda Rusch, Earl (Pam) Teague, Vanessa Simmons and Cassandra Burrell; brothers-in-law, Robert (Gay) Bruce Jr. and Herbert Taylor; special cousin, Mike Hill; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clara; brother, Robert Burrell Jr.; sister, Brenda Graves and sister-in laws, Phyliss Burrell and Deborah Taylor.
