Ruth E. Orwitz, 88, of Rock Island, passed away Friday January 12, 2024 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00pm Friday January 19, 2024 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00pm Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be left to St. Pius Catholic Church and Alleman High School.

Ruth was born on November 11, 1935 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Helen (O'Brien) Carolan. She married Louis Orwitz on October 12, 1957 in Rock Island.

Mrs. Orwitz had been employed at the Rock Island Courthouse as a circuit clerk until her retirement in 1998.

She loved spending time with her family and friends, attending her grandchildren's school events and was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include her children, Matthew (Mary) Orwitz, Davenport, Martin (Lisa) Orwitz, LeClaire, Ellen (Jeff) Fry, Colona; grandchildren, Alaina (Sean), Rabecca (Gustaf), Olivia (Tom), Mick, Natalie; sister, Mary Ellen (Richard) Kuhlman; brother in law, Vincent McGuire; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; parents, Raymond and Helen; brothers, Raymond, Charles; sisters, Rosalyn and Eunice.
