Obituary

Ruth Spector Conn passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16th, 2014 at the Carolyn Kline Galland Home in Seattle, Washington. She was 98.Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28 at Congregation Beth Israel at the Tri-City Jewish Center, 2715 30th St., Rock Island. Burial will follow at the Hebrew Cemetery. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, can be given to the Tri-City Jewish Center.

Better known as "Babe", she was the only member of her family born in Rock Island. Her parents, Meyer and Anna Sohn Spector, with their children Walter, Sam, Louie, Eda and Lottie – made the long journey from Russia to find a better life in America.

As co-owner of Conn's Town & Country Furniture with her husband Michael ("Mickey") Conn, Ruth was called "the queen of Quad-Cities furniture". An energetic, out-going person, she loved going to work every day and enjoyed meeting every person who came into the store.

Ruth was a smart, very funny, down-to-earth woman. With a good mind for business and investing, she believed that you were missing out on a lot of fun if you didn't follow the stock market.

Throughout most of her life, Ruth enjoyed reading, playing golf and bridge, watching CNN, and cooking for others --especially her famous apple pies.

Ruth's greatest pride and source of happiness were her children Jeff and Marsha, her grandchildren Amy, Wendy and Adam, and her great grandchildren Liz, Zoey, Emily and Laura. They were the loves of her life and she never tired of bragging about their many achievements.

Ruth admired great women and was guided by their words. Two of her favorite quotations: "You must do the thing you think you cannot do." (Eleanor Roosevelt) "Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life." (Golda Meir).

The family extends their deepest thanks to the 3E nursing staff at the Kline Galland Home who so lovingly cared for Ruth over many years, to her nephew, Dr. Gary Spector, who was always there when needed, and to her family, Ruth's biggest fans and best audience.
