Ruth M. Kernan, 89, Rock Island, IL passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at her home surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice. There will be a visitation from 10-11:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 4, 2024 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Entombment at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the church.

Ruth was born on August 16, 1935 to John and Mary Ann (Chamales) Adams in DePere, WI. She grew up in WI where she attended school. She then worked as a stenographer for Badger Sheet Metal in Green Bay.

On August 17, 1957 Ruth was united in marriage to Patrick Kernan at St. Francis Xavier in DePere. The couple moved to Rock Island in 1974 and were members of St. Pius X Church.

Ruth worked in the appliance department at the Rock Island Kmart for 20 years until her retirement.

Ruth's Catholic faith was of the utmost importance in her life and she was very active with St. Pius. She was involved with the Legion of St. Mary Auxiliary, St. Pius Pro-Life, Servants of Christ Prayer Group, the St. Pius Prayer Chain, and often served as a Eucharistic Minister. Ruth was also a member of the Christ Child Society of the Quad Cities. In her free time, she would visit nursing homes and pray for the sick.

She is survived by her children, Patrick (Chun) Kernan Jr., Kathleen Kernan, and Edward (Jackie) Kernan; grandchildren, Amanda (Habraham) Bautista, Heather Shadden, Kelsey Kernan, and Courtney Kernan; great-grandchildren, Shawn, Lucy, Caleb, Blake, Lila, Camila, and Oliver; sister, Janet Platt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Steven; siblings, John, Tom, Walter, and Peter Adams, Robert Kendall, LuAnn Phillips, and Bette Anderson.
