Sallie Jo Cahail, 87, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at her residence.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association

Sallie was born June 4, 1928 in Medina, NY, the daughter of Roy and Gertrude (Moyer) Newman. She married Robert Cahail on September 21, 1960 in Muscatine, IA. Sallie was employed as the deputy county clerk in the Rock Island County clerk's office for 17 years, retiring in 1993. In her younger years, Sallie was a race walker, and won various trophies and prizes.

Sallie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Cahail, Rock Island; daughter, Kathleen Arand, Batavia, IL; son, William E. (Diana) Bodell Jr., Bolingbrook, IL; step-sons, Robert (Rosonna) and Patrick Cahail; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Jack Newman; and son-in-law, John Arand.
