Sally was born May 30, 1935, the daughter of John and Fern (Adams) Raschke in Edford Township, Geneseo, Illinois. Sally began her education in a one-room country schoolhouse, graduated from Geneseo High School in 1952, and from Moline Lutheran School of Nursing in 1955. On June 24, 1956, Sally married Gale L. Vetter of Rock Island at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Edford Township where she had been baptized and confirmed. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2014. During Sally's nursing career she worked at Moline Lutheran Hospital Pathway, assisted Dr. J. P. Johnson as interim office nurse, and was a school nurse for Immanuel Lutheran School and Augustana College, Rock Island. She retired from Adolescent Psych UnityPoint West in 1997.
Sally and Gale became charter members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Milan. She taught Sunday School at St. Matthew for many years and used her artistic talents to design altar paraments for the church. Sally and Gale were also longtime members of the local WWW Competition Western Dance group. Sally served as president of the Thomas Jefferson School PTA, Milan, and was awarded a Lifetime PTA Membership by the State of Illinois. Due to her love of reading she also enjoyed serving as a Library Trustee of the Rock Island Library Southwest branch.
Sally and Gale's happiest times and memories were taking care of their grandson's Cameron and Cole during their preschool years.
Those remaining to cherish Sally's memory are her sons, Larry Vetter, Rock Island, and Tom (Michelle) Vetter, The Villages, Florida; grandsons, Cameron Vetter, Milan, and Cole Vetter, U.S. Army Ft. Eisenhower; great-grandson, Harrison James; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Those preceding her in death are her husband, parents, son, James Vetter, brother, John Raschke, and sister-in-law, Ann Raschke.
