Samuel "Sam" J. Hubbs, 53, of Rock Island, died Monday, June 29, 2015 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Services will be private with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers. Memorials may be made in care of the American Heart Association, Rock Island Conservation Club or the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

Sam was born in Peoria, Ill. on July 13, 1961, a son of Carl H. "Sam" and Lois Holliday Hubbs. He graduated from Cambridge (Ill) High School, class of "79." He would later graduate with a B.A. degree from Eureka College.

Sam had been employed at Penske Truck Leasing Co. for the last 22 years.

Sam was an avid fisherman and camper. He loved riding his Harley for the many years that he owned one. He also enjoyed cooking, barbequing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Daniel J. Hubbs, Jamie L. Hubbs, Fort Myers, Fla. and Katrina N. Hubbs, Bettendorf; step-daughters, Samantha Schaefer-Gardner, Odessa, Texas and Amy Carr, Bettendorf; mother, Lois Hubbs, Galva, Ill.; grandchildren, Hailey, Adrian, Maleek and Jack; sisters, Missy (Don) Quanstrom, Galva and Carla Hubbs, Chicago; two nieces, Valerie McArthur and Raquel Quanstrom, both of Galva; nephew, Matthew Quanstrom, Stanwood, Wash.; great nieces, Angela and Sophia; and several aunts and uncles.

Sam was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
