Obituary

Deacon Samuel Nash Sr. 82 of Moline, IL departed this life June 9th, 2023.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday June 17, 2023 at Grace City Church, 1925 5th Ave, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am at church. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Sam was born in Woodville, MS to the late Cora Smith and Andrew Nash on September 2nd, 1940. He was raised by Samuel and Elnora Griggs.

Sam attended the Lukeville public school in Brusly, LA. He was also a student of the world and learned how to do many things just by watching people. Sam married Marilyn Monson February 18, 1961 in Ravenna, OH. They were married for 62 years.

Sam enjoyed golfing, playing dominoes, fishing, and helping people. He could be found helping people of all walks of life and taking care of those around him whether they had means to pay or not.

Sam loved his family and every chance he got he wanted the family to always remember one thing, "God first and always remember that families stick together no matter what."

Deacon Samuel Nash Sr. became a deacon at Greater Antioch and later reinstalled at Grace City Church on November 29, 2022.

He leaves to cherish his memory Marilyn, his wife of 62 years, 5 children: Samuel Nash Jr. (Julie) of Davenport, IA , Sidney Nash (Donna) of Killeen, TX , Mildred (Curtis) Brooks of Moline, IL , Robert Nash (Tonya) Mount Pleasant, IA, Diana (Brian) McCreary of Pensacola, FL., an adopted son Michael Morgan, 12 grandchildren: La'Shelle (Theron) Priester, Adrienne (Chris) Farris, Nashira (Eddie) Williams, Robert Jr., Dominique Brooks, Tayler Arnold, Brianna (Antonio) Evans, Brian McCreary Jr., Paige (Brian) Murphy, Justin McCreary, Bianca (Kevin) Wallace, and 16 great grand kids, 2 godchildren Shemeicka Miller and Valissa Jeanette Richnavsky. Sister-in-law Olivia Taylor, brother Dennis (Veronica) Monson, brother Michael (Donna) Monson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family, and golfing buddies.

Sam was preceded in death by Andrew Nash and Cora Smith, his beloved great uncle and aunt Samuel and Elnora Griggs, 4 brothers Leonard (Margery) Cain, David (Doretha) Knight, George W. Caine, Edison (Myrtis) Bruster, Fredrick Monson, Sandra Davis, his name sake grandson James Samuel Henderson, and his beloved fur baby TJ Nash.
