Obituary

Sandra Sue Eagle, a sassy and stubborn soul with a heart full of love for family and friends, began her journey to be reunited with loved ones on November 9, 2024.

A fond farewell visitation will be held at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2024. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A private family good-bye and distribution of ashes will be held at a later date.

Sandra Sue was born on February 8, 1938 in Brazil, Iowa to Alvin Hall and Lady Mae (Drew) Feeley. The youngest of five children, she was spoiled by her older brothers, Patrick, Robert and Wendell and sister, Barbara. She adapted easily to being spoiled and was happy it continued throughout her life.

Sandra Sue attended local schools and enjoyed her time there. She counts among her many friends, classmates from Longfellow, Central Jr. High and Rock Island High School. She married Dick Eagle on June 9, 1957. They later divorced but remained friends. However, in the interest of public disclosure- she frequently gave him some smack talk. They were blessed with three children, Timothy (Kathy), Thomas (Jennifer) and Jennifer (Mike) Long.

She had such fun with her grandkids attending sports events, theater and music competitions – and then they got their driver's licenses! Sandra Sue filled her time with various activities, lunching with friends, cards, puzzle solving, dining out and wild (perhaps an oxymoron) domino games with the Ha-Ha Girls (childhood friends) and 40 years of Upwords competition with her friend Helen Miner. She enjoyed crafts but realized quickly her skills were limited; her friends agreed. She was the recipient of many of their special gifts. She took great pleasure in spending time with her friends and enjoyed entertaining. She was dubbed a "procrastinating perfectionist". The procrastinating part limited her events! In earlier years she served as a hospice volunteer- a meaningful and heartwarming experience initiated by Carol Youngquist, her dear and faithful friend.

Sandra was employed by the State of Illinois (that would probably have surprised Coach Allen her high school government teacher) in the office of two great gentlemen and special friends – former State Representatives Joel Brunsvold and Pat Verschoore. They enjoyed a pleasant working relationship, friendly rapport and an occasional bacon, egg and cheese biscuit or lunch.

Sandra Sue enjoyed reading and had many favorite authors, however she found that Kermit the Frog expressed her feelings very well. "Yeah, well, I've got a dream too. But it's about singing and dancing and making people happy. That's the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with. And, well, I've found a whole bunch of friends who have the same dream. And it kind of makes us like a family."

Those left to cherish Sandra Sue's memory include her children, Thomas (Jennifer) Eagle and Jennifer (Mike) Long; daughter-in-law, Kathy Eagle; grandchildren, Evan, Alyson, Lyndsey and Andrew Eagle; great granddaughter, Aspen Grace Eagle; great grandson, Archer Timothy Eagle; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Feeley; and her fun-loving nieces and nephews. And – many dear and special friends whose comfort and support during difficult times gave her strength and warmed her heart.

Sadly, Sandra Sue was preceded in death by her son, Timothy; grandson, Eliot Timothy; parents; four siblings; in laws, Dick and Florine Eagle; and sisters-in-law, Betty Feeley and Neoma Feeley.

Sandra was a confirmed member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island. She often spoke of regretting her limited attendance but was thankful for the Christian values she learned there – they served her well.

Sandy would appreciate being honored by allowing her spirit to live on in a way that would please her; hug someone in need, lend a helping hand, laugh and smile and "Be ye kind one to another".

For those interested memorials can be made to Friends of Tim Eagle. These donations will be forwarded to Dr. Mark Albertini at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center for research.

Online condolences may be left on Sandra Sue's tribute wall.
