Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Fellowship Church.

Sandy was born on July 19, 1939, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of Cyril C. and Maurine M. (Martin) Smith. She married Duncan Reid on August 23, 1958, in Collinsville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 13, 2016.

Sandy graduated from Collinsville High School in Collinsville, Illinois. She later earned an Associate Degree in Nursing and devoted many years to caring for others as a registered nurse. She worked at the former Franciscan Hospital in Rock Island before continuing her career in home healthcare, where her compassion, gentleness, and servant's heart brought comfort to countless patients and families.

Above all, Sandy was a devoted follower of Christ and a faithful member of Grace Fellowship Church in Davenport. She loved the local church and faithfully worshiped, served, encouraged others, and invested in the lives of those around her. She generously volunteered with Pregnancy Resources and delighted in showing the love of Christ through quiet acts of kindness and faithful service. At Grace Fellowship Church, Sandy was known simply as “Grandma.” Her warm smile, gentle spirit, listening ear, and genuine love made every person—from the youngest child to the oldest adult—feel like family.

Sandy faithfully supported her husband throughout his coaching career and could often be found cheering from the stands as he coached basketball. She also enjoyed reading, gathering with friends for lunch, and making memories with her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her beloved church family, all of whom were the delight of her life. Her legacy of faith, love, hospitality, and steadfast devotion to her family and church will continue to bless all who knew her.

Those left to cherish Sandy’s memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Brenda Reid; grandchildren, Kristin (Tyler) Wood, Eric (Laura) Reid, Alex (McKenzie) Reid, Austin (Haylie) Reid, and Jimmy (fiancée, Chelsea) Reid; great-grandchildren, Norah, Clara, Lydia, Eliza, Ellis, Ansley, Evie, Pierce, Davis, Palmer, Baker, Aria, Myla, and Chase; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Emily Reid; grandchildren, Sarah Reid, Nick Reid, Tanner (Taylor) Reid, Jack Reid, Jonathon Reid, and Sophia Reid; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Leilah, TJ, and Roman; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Candace Reid; grandchildren, Morgan (Micah) Dean and Taylor (Kevin) McMahon; great-grandchildren, Owen and Blaire; sisters, Judith Barnett and Shirley (John) Fingerhut; and brother-in-law, Jim Slattery.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duncan; her son, David Reid; her sister, Carole Slattery; and her brother-in-law, Maxey Barnett.
