Sarah J. Siegel (Friedman), 99, of Rock Island, died on Thursday June 9, 2016 at UPH-Trinity, Rock Island.
Services will be 11:00am Tuesday June 14, 2016 at Tri City Jewish Center, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Hebrew Cemetery. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be left to Congregation Beth Israel or the Alzheimer's Association.
Sarah was born on August 19, 1916 in Rock Island, the daughter of Esther and Harry Friedman.
Sarah graduated from Rock Island High School at the age of 15 and attended Augustana College majoring in accounting. She was a member of the Tri-City Jewish Center and for many years served on its Board of Directors. Mrs. Siegel was a past president of the Beth Israel Sisterhood, B'nai B'rith Women and Quad Cities chapter of City of Hope. She was very proud to be an active member of the Mayo Legacy of Rochester, MN in gratitude for the excellent care she received at the Mayo Clinic.
In 2005 the Rock Island Hebrew Cemetery Association honored her for her leadership in creating an endowment fund to ensure the perpetual maintenance and future development of the cemetery.
Sarah was a brilliant and caring matriarch of the Siegel and Friedman families. Everyone loved and respected her. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her children, Donald (Martha), Boston, MA, Ellen(Howard) Wolfe, Riverwoods, IL, Maynard, Rock Island; grandchildren, Elizabeth Swartz(Todd), Charlotte, NC, Joshua Siegel(Rachel), Needham, MA, Gabrielle Liverant(Baruch), Sharon, MA; 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael R. Siegel; parents, Esther and Harry; brothers, Ben, Isadore and Abe Friedman.
