Obituary

Scott P. Long, aged 71, of Milan, IL, peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Born on January 30, 1955, in Oskaloosa, IA, Scott was the beloved son of Paul and Mary (Barcus) Long. Throughout his life, Scott exemplified dedication as evidenced by a proud 32 years at John Deere, both at the Parts Distribution Center in Milan and Harvester Works in East Moline. In April 1974, he married Nancy Manley, beginning a journey that shaped the fabric of his life. After Nancy, he married Toni Dhabalt in 1995, a cherished relationship that ended with her passing in 2008. Scott and Nancy remained dear friends, leading to their remarriage in 2014. Nancy preceded him in death in 2025.

Scott’s greatest pride came from his family: his children, William (Amanda) Long and Mary (James) Sellers; his grandchildren, Camden (Malia), Alyssa, Emma, Katelyn, and Audrey; and his great-grandson, Grayson. He is also survived by his siblings, Julia Littig and Kevin Long, and a special friend, Kirby McLaughlin.

Scott's passions were as varied as they were profound. He found joy in muscle cars and Harley motorcycles, cherished the time spent and memories made with friends at the drag strip, and had a love for both the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, although anyone who knows, recognizes that is a strained relationship. He treasured his visits to Deadwood, South Dakota, and had an unwavering affection for his Akita dogs and his dog Atlas.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, both his spouses, and his infant brother, Johnnie Long.

A visitation will be held in his honor on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Milan. Following the visitation, a private burial will take place at Preemption Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Scott's name to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center. These gifts will help continue Scott's legacy of love for animals and his commitment to kindness.

As we reflect on Scott's life, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives, the warmth of his laughter, and the strength of his love.
