Obituary

Scott A. McMeekan, 46, of Taylor Ridge, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island after a short, hard fight with appendix cancer. Services for Scott will be 10 am, Wednesday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Andalusia Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Scott McMeekan Memorial at Andalusia Community Bank to be used as an education fund for Scott's girls.Scott was born on March 6, 1968 in Moline, son of Stanley and Beverly McMeekan. He married Joy Tumilson on August 30, 1997 in Bettendorf. Scott worked in sales for Staples. He owned and operated Scott Allen Photography. He also served as President of 3 Minutes Out Inc., a non profit organization, assisting active duty military personal, veterans and their families. Scott was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island and loved sharing his faith in Christ with others. He had an amazing sense of humor and loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed photography, gardening, landscaping, fishing, reading, and enjoying the outdoors. He was a proud American who loved honoring our military men and women.

Survivors include his wife, Joy; daughters, Kelsi, Sydney and Isabella; father, Stan McMeekan, Rock Island; mother and step father, Bev and Jim Samberg, Andalusia; siblings and (spouses), Michael "Oly" (Karen) Anderson, Edgington, Rick Anderson, Peoria, Jeff (Gail) Anderson, Moline and Becky Klabunde, East Moline; step sister Missy (Steve) Vogrin and family, Downers Grove; father in law and mother in law, George and Kathy Tumilson, Rockford, IA; sister in law Kristie Pohlman, Cedar Rapids, IA.; and five nephews and six nieces.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ivan and Martha McMeekan, Henry and Florence Forsyth; aunts and uncles, Carolyn McMeekan Starman, Helen Forsyth McNeil, Wayne Forsyth and Chuck Forsyth; and a brother in law, Chief Petty Officer, Jon Tumilson, a U.S. Navy SEAL that was killed in action in Afghanistan.
