Obituary

Shari Ann Baker (nee Greenberger), 59, died Sunday, September 22, 2024 at her home surrounded by her beloved family and St. Bernards. Shari was born September 16, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Skokie, Illinois where she attended Niles North High School. Shari graduated from Michigan State University and moved to the Quad Cities in 1987. She married her husband, Conrad Baker, in 1995, and they moved to Bettendorf and started their family.

Shari had many fulfilling careers including stops at WQAD, Davenport RiverCenter, NAMI, UnityPoint-Trinity, and NormaLeah Ovarian Cancer Initiative. Her favorite job was being a figure skating instructor and coach to countless students at the River's Edge in Davenport. She will definitely be watching and whispering into their ears from afar.

Shari was very active in the Quad City community, serving on the boards of New Kingdom Trailriders, Camp Kesem at Augustana College, Bettendorf Business Network, the Figure Skating Club of the Quad Cities, Hearts for Horses, Midwest Horseman's Association, Muscatine Saddle Club, and as a team member on the Backwater Gamblers Ski Show Club.

Her hobbies included scrapbooking, quilting, traveling, snow and water skiing, figure skating, and caring for Tristan, her pony, Chester, her horse, and dogs Woody, Allie, Ozzie, Annie, Koda, and Bear. Her most cherished times were when she was cheering on her children at their extracurricular activities.

Shari was predeceased by her son, Ethan; grandparents, Sadie and Irving Greenberger and Miriam and Hyman Ross; great aunt, Millie Horwitz; great uncle, Myron (Florence) Miller; uncles, Stuart Greenberger and Bill Ross; and in-laws, Al and Jeannine Baker.

Shari is survived her husband, Conrad; children, Aaron, Maya, and Sasha; parents, Merrill and Barbara Greenberger; siblings, Steven (Kimberly) Greenberger and Lisa (Vivian) Khabeer; nieces and nephews, Jeremy Litberg, Alexandra Greenberger, Adin Greenberger, and Maci Khabeer; aunts, Rivia (the late Stuart) Greenberger and Deidre (the late Bill) Ross; cousins, Kathy (Steve) Greenberger-Slaggert, Mark (Robin) Greenberger, Karen Topp, Darcy (Josh) Babcock, Robert Ross, Jeremy Winer, and Seth (Jenny) Miller; in-laws Andy (Daena) Baker and Chris (Peiling) Baker; and numerous extended cousins.

The family would also like to thank many dear friends for their support. In addition to their dear friends, the family also wishes to acknowledge the wonderful social worker, nurses and aid of Trinity-at-home that took care of Shari.

A funeral service will take place at 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois 61201.  Burial will be in Hebrew Cemetery, Rock Island.  The family will invite all of those in attendance to join them for a gathering (Shiva) both Wednesday and Thursday evening.  Details will be provided at the funeral.

Shari requested that in lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor her make a donation to Camp Kesem at Augustana College, New Kingdom Trailriders, or Camp Kesem at University of Iowa
