Sharon L. Payton, 74, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday May 27, 2023 at UPH Trinity, Rock Island.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00pm Tuesday June 6, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock island. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Inurnment will be private in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Sharon was born on August 22, 1948 in Rock Island, the daughter of Leonard and Susan (Houston) Boyd Sr.  She married Michael Payton on January 17, 1976 in Rock Island. She had worked at Rock Island City Hall and later at the bargain center, before retiring to be a homemaker.

Sharon loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and listening to music.

She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Michael; daughter, Elishcia Payton, Moline; grandsons, Tavian M. Williams and Jamere A. Burrage; sisters, Shirley Jones, Beverly Taylor and Marilyn Robbins; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Leonard Boyd II, Donald Boyd and Wayne Boyd.
