Shelly N. VanNorman, 67, Milan, IL passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026 in Rock Island, IL under the care of hospice and surrounded by family. No services are planned. Memorials may be made to the QC Animal Welfare Center.

Shelly was born on December 5, 1958 to John and Hertha (Whitaker) Vann in Rock Island, IL. After graduating from Rocky in 1978, she went on to attend Blackhawk College. She earned an LPN degree and then started her nursing career. In the decades following, Shelly worked as a nurse in the ER, hospital units, and in clinics. She provided home healthcare for the last several years before retiring in 2024.

In 1983 she was united in marriage to Gary Harmon. They had two sons and the family lived briefly in New Jersey before returning to the Quad Cities to make their home.

On February 14, 2004 Shelly married Kenneth “Dave” VanNorman in Rock Island. They remained married until his passing in 2022.

Shelly was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She was an animal lover who adored her dogs, Tango, Thaddy and Watson.

Shelly is survived by her sons, Jacob and Ryan Harmon; granddaughter, Chloe Harmon; siblings, Stephen Vann and Peggy Connell; extended family; and several close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother, Perry Vann; and her beloved dogs.
