Sheri Dee Morris, 76, of Rock Island, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Arcadia Care, Rock Island. In honoring her wishes, cremation rites were accorded. A celebration of life will be held in her memory in September 2026, where family and friends will gather to share cherished stories and reflections on her remarkable life. Inurnment will be conducted privately at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family or to a charity of your choice, allowing her legacy of kindness and service to continue.
Sheri was born on September 18, 1949, in Moline, Illinois, to Albert R. Sr. and Minnie L. Walstrom Myers. She was united in marriage to Merrill H. Morris on December 19, 1971, at the Blackhawk Hotel in Davenport, Iowa, forging a deep partnership that lasted throughout their lives. They were married 54 years.
A dedicated professional, Sheri worked for the U.S. Army at the Rock Island Arsenal, where she excelled in various roles including secretary, logistician, item manager, team leader, and foreign military sales contractor, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. A strong community member, Sheri was actively involved in several organizations, including the Congregation Beth Israel at the Tri-City Jewish Center, Chapter GQ PEO, Junior Women’s Club of Rock Island, Red Hat Lady Bugs, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a passionate advocate and volunteer for the National Reyes Syndrome Foundation, where her great efforts lobbying with national politicians forced the Aspirin industry to put warning labels on their products in 1983. Her efforts all but eradicated the disease after the loss of her beloved Staci Kay.
Sheri is survived by her beloved husband, Merrill Morris; her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Lorelei Morris; and her cherished grandchildren, Idalia Hartwell, Nick Hartwell, Damien Hartwell, Andrew W. Morris, Jr., and Delaney Kay Morris. She is also survived by her siblings, Dixie McMullen and Carl Myers, as well as her sister-in-law, Margot Blewett.
She was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Staci Kay Morris, and her siblings, Betty Temple, Maxine Mcfall, and Patricia Crownover, along with her brothers Albert R. Myers, Jr., Charles C. Myers, and Russell Myers. Sherri was also predeceased by her mother-in-law, Sharlene E. Petersen.
The family would like to recognize the special people who provided non-stop caregiving and love during her health struggles over the past 3 months. Tina Mickiewicz, Margie and Steve Cornillaud, Bev and Floyd Nidey, and Bill DeVrieze.
