Obituary

Sherman R. Ganahl, 76, of Taylor Ridge, died Monday, November 30, 2015 at his home. Services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will follow the services. Memorials may be made in care of Living Lands and Waters, Trinity United Methodist Church, Milan or to the family.

Sherman was born in Moline on January 15, 1939, a son of Richard and Frances Aldene Ganahl. He married Sandra Blankenship on January 17, 2002 in Rock Island.

Sherman was a fifty year member of the Carpenter Local Union 166, Milan, where he retired in 1999.

Sherman enjoyed fishing, gardening, wood working and any other work he could do with his hands. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan, and he was a lifetime member of the Rock Island Boat Club.

More than anything, Sherman loved being there for his family, from dances to sporting events, he was always there.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Ganahl, Taylor Ridge; children, Gayla Ganahl, Joliet, Ill., Lori (Steve) Mangels, Bluegrass, Iowa and Brent (Daphne) Ganahl, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Tyler Brown, Julia (Don) Shwaga, Merissa Bethea, Brady, Madison and Matthew Mangels and Sydnee Ganahl; adopted grandson, Reid Mueller; great grandson, Trevor Shwaga and one more great-grandson on the way; sister, Sharon Kiehna, Milan; niece, Connie Kiehna; nephew, Kevin Kiehna; great nephews, Austin, Adam, Evan and Alex Kiehna; and many friends including, Jack Newton, Steve McManus and family, Robin (Mark) Mueller, Sam Brereton and everyone at Knoxville Tap.

Sherman was preceded in death by his parents and great-nephew, Dylan Kiehna.
