Shirley A. Carpenter, 72, of Moline, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. A time for visitation and fellowship will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave. Milan, IL 61264. Memorials may be made to the family.

Shirley was born on January 9, 1942 in Peoria, Illinois, a daughter of Charles and June Russell Defreitas. She married Homer "Ray" Carpenter on July 27, 1968 in Peoria. In earlier years, Shirley worked for the ARC of the Quad City Area as a housekeeper; but her main job was always caring for her beloved family. Shirley enjoyed yard work and spending as much time as possible with her two special granddaughters.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ray; daughter, Diana K. Proksch, Viola, Donald R. Carpenter, Milan; granddaughters, Lindsey and Alyssa Proksch; sister, Janice Watson, Gainsville, FL; brother, Charles Defreitas, Morton, IL; as well as many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Sandra Parrott and Beverly Romesburg and a brother, Jack Defreitas
