Shirley Ruth Chandler, born, Shirley Ruth Hobbs, on April 7, 1941, in Nortonville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 in Rock Island, Illinois, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with dementia. 

Shirley and her husband, Dene, spent much of their lives together owning and operating a hardware store in New Palestine, Indiana. Their store was more than a business- it was a place where they built relationships, served their community, and became part of the daily lives of countless friends and neighbors. 

Above all, Shirley treasured her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people she loved. Her love and unwavering presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Dene Chandler; her son, Brady Chandler; and her daughter, Gina Sexton (Chandler). 

She is survived by her daughter, Tina Crosby (Dave); her granddaughters, Holly Nordenberg (Ross) and Stacey Ballard (Andrew); and her cherished great-granddaughters, Gwen, Gia, Hannah, Myra, and Rylee. 

Private graveside services will be held at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be left to the Dementia Society of America in Shirley's memory.
