Shirley A. Herman, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Friday March 4, 2016 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 10 am on Thursday at the Trinity Anglican Church, 1818 6th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be  4 to 7 pm  Wednesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial will be at the Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be left to Trinity Anglican Church.

Shirley was born on December 5, 1929 in Huntington, Ind., the daughter of Nevin and Doris (Edris) Lowman. She married Gerald L. "Jerry" Herman on June 16, 1948 in Rock Island.

Mrs. Herman graduated from Rock Island High School.  She had been employed as an educational secretary with the Rock Island/Milan School District 41 for 23 years, working at Rock Island High School and Earl H. Hanson Elementary School.   She retired in 1986.

Shirley was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, where she was active with the Vestry, Altar Guild, St. Francis Society and the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament. Shirley enjoyed family genealogy, bird watching and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughter, Jerilyn (Kenneth) DuBeau, Batavia, Ill; son, Timothy (Ellen) Herman, Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Benjamin and Abigail DuBeau, both of Batavia; Eileen (Scott) Kesner, Dallas, Tx., and Michael, Andrew and Christopher Herman, all of Nashville; and a great grandson, Jayden.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
