Shirley J. Long, 82, of Rock Island, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022. Services will be 1 pm, Thursday at Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family or to 15th Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family. The family requests no flowers please.

Shirley was born on June 2, 1939 in Cooksville, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Margene (Weber) Canute. She married William Long on November 9, 1957 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2018. Shirley worked as a key punch operator at IBM. She later worked at Augustana College Book Store and WQAD-TV. Shirley was an active member of 15th Avenue Christian Church where she sang in the choir. Shirley enjoyed shopping, boating, fishing and girls fast pitch softball.

Survivors include her children, Terry (Joel) Ambrozi, Moline, Anthony "Tony" Long, Rock Island, and Tammy (Ron) Mutka, Milan; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Beverley (James) Ducey, East Moline. She loved her family and those she adopted along the way.
