Shirley E. Schade, 91, a resident of Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 at the center.

Funeral services are 1 pm Thurs. at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wed. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the activities fund at Silver Cross Nursing Center.

Shirley E. Griff was born Feb. 17, 1923 in Rock Island, the daughter of Ray and Madeline VanTheemshee Griff. She graduated from Rock Island High School, where she was an honor roll student and was a member of the Drama and Glee Clubs. Shirley married Clifford Schade and took up residency along the Rock River.

Her passions in life were teaching Sunday school at Immanuel Lutheran Church, reading, puzzles, wiener dogs, running (including the Bix 7) and enjoying the Rock River.

Shirley has three sons, Steve (Cathy) Schade, Bettendorf, Scott (Faith) Schade, Spokane, Wash., and Sandy (Diane) Schade, Rock Island. Fond memories of her will be held by her numerous grand and great-grandchildren whom spent many weekends and summers with her. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Stacy Jean Schade; and brother, Ray Griff Jr.
