Obituary

Shirley Wilson, 88, of Milan, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at StoryPoint in Bettendorf. She was born on April 5, 1938, in Missouri to John and Mildred (Webb) Lyons.

On June 30, 1956, Shirley married the love of her life, Larry E. Wilson, in Rock Island. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and love. They later owned and operated Reynolds Manufacturing Company in Milan and Rock Island.

To know Shirley was to know someone who was genuine through and through. She was a no-nonsense, "tell it like it is" kind of woman whose honesty was always wrapped in love. She was strong, wise, fair, generous, playful, and unforgettable. Shirley had a quick wit and loved to laugh—especially at life's absurd moments and the silly things people did. Her laughter was contagious, and she found joy in spending time with family, friends, coworkers, and even the caregivers who brightened her days.

Shirley loved God with unwavering faith. She faithfully served her church as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, and choir member, pouring her heart into helping children know and love Jesus. She believed that faith was something to be lived, and her life reflected that belief in countless quiet acts of kindness and service.

She was deeply sacrificial, always placing the needs of her family before her own. If she had something to give, she gave it freely. Her love wasn't measured by words alone but by a lifetime of selfless actions that demonstrated her devotion to those she cherished. Shirley also enjoyed the blessings of everyday life. She loved tending her garden, working alongside Larry in their yard, taking peaceful country drives, vacationing in Florida, going out to eat with family, fishing with Larry, watching sitcoms, spending time outdoors, and appreciating the beauty of God's creation. Shirley believed that the greatest joys were found in faith, family, and simply being together.

Above all, Shirley treasured her family. She is lovingly survived by her children, Debera DuBree, Larry M. (Liz) Wilson, Marty D. Wilson, and Marcy E. (Souk) Kongkousonh; her grandchildren, Eric, Carly, Steven, Travis, Jenna, Steven W., Joe, Abigail, and Micah; her great-grandchildren, Evan and Liam DuBree; and her sisters, Judie and Jonnie.

Though her family grieves her passing, they rejoice knowing Shirley is now fully healed and in the presence of her Savior. The legacy she leaves is one of unwavering faith, strength, generosity, laughter, and sacrificial love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A funeral service celebrating Shirley's life will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Milan. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She will be laid to rest at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Shirley's name to the Alzheimer's Association .
