IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stanley W.
Mcmeekan
December 14, 1935 – January 30, 2025
Stanley W. McMeekan, 89, of Eldridge, formerly of Rock Island, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at The Vistas at Bettendorf. Memorial services for Stan will be 11 am, Saturday February 8,2025 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Andalusia Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Milan American Legion Post No. 569. Memorials may be made to UnityPoint Hospice.
Stan was born on December 14, 1935, in Millersburg Township, Illinois, a son of Ivan and Martha (Edgar) McMeekan. He served two years in the United States Army and after leaving the Army he married Beverly (Forsyth) Anderson. He took on the role of not only husband but was dad to her 4 children from her previous marriage and together they had a son, Scott Allen McMeekan. Stan and Beverly later divorced and he never remarried. Stan spent his career as a machinist at Case/International Harvester where he retired when he was in his fifties. Stan lived most of his life in Matherville and Alpha area and moved to Rock Island in 1997 to be closer to his son and daughter-in-law. He moved to Eldridge in 2023 to an independent living facility and later with his daughter-in-law and her family when he could no longer live on his own.
Stan was a simple and quiet man but when he spoke he did so with great animation, speaking as much with his hands as he did his voice. He had a strong work ethic and spent his retirement tinkering and fixing things. You would always find Stan working around the house or in the yard in his plaid button downs with the sleeves cut off, it was his iconic look. He always made sure he had gum in his front pocket to share with his granddaughters. Stan showed his love for others through his actions and would always be the first to help someone out. His greatest joy was being a dad and later a grandpa to his three granddaughters.
Those left to cherish Stan's memory are his daughter- in-law Joy(Brian) Bush; his stepsons Oly (Karen) Anderson, Rick (Precy) Anderson, and Jeff (Gail) Anderson; his granddaughters, Kelsi, Sydney, and Isabella McMeekan; his brother, Lane (JoAnn) McMeekan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Martha McMeekan; son, Scott McMeekan; stepdaughter, Becky Klabunde; and sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Glenn Starman.
