Stanley T. "Stan the Man" Schmidt Sr., 89, of Rock Island, passed away Friday November 10, 2017 at his residence.

Funeral services will be 12:30pm Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 11:30am till service time at the funeral home. Private burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be left to a favorite charity.

Stanley was born on November 2, 1928 in Fort Madison, IA., the son of F.A. Schmidt and Madalen Leichtehausen.

Mr. Schmidt had been employed with the former STL as a truck driver for over 17 years and later drove for A&R. He had previously been employed by Rock Island Laundry.

Survivors include his longtime companion of 42 years, Betty Eidet, Rock Island; children and their spouses, Jenny Marie (David) Thompson, Sigourney, IA, Daniel L. (Sheila) Schmidt, Roberta L. (Bill) Albertson, all of Cedar Rapids, Deborah K. (Randy) Schultz, Sigourney, Stanley T. (Maureen) Schmidt Jr., Austin, TX, Gregory F. Schmidt (Rita Titman), Rock Island, Dan (Priscilla) Eidet, Kansas City, MO., Dean (Rae) Eidet, Woodhull; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother and step father, Madalen and Slim Winterhalter and a sister, Elayne Heimbeck.
